Reading CD-Text does't seem to be working

Post Reading CD-Text does't seem to be working

Hai,

Since a few months I can burn cd's with cd-text. This works, I saw the information appear on a cd-player from a friend. I also see the information appear when I view medium info in Nero.
Now I know that there is a way to let catraxx read this cd-text and store this in my database as a new album. However, this doesn't work. I always get the message the cd contains no cd-text and I have to specify the correct cd-drive in preferences. I tried all possibilities (default, G:\ and H:\), but nothing helps. Is there anyone who can tell me what the problem is, or is this a bug in the program?

But you see info in NERO using the same drive you use in CATraxx or in your burner ?
Have you already tried to let CATrxax read the CD-Text from your burner instead than from the CD/DVD player ?
My doubt is that your player is NOT CD-Text enabled while it is instead your burner...and probably your friend's CD player...
If you need to tell me your devices' brands & models I can tell it for sure.

By the way: here it works fine.

Thanks in advance.

Post CD-Text

Hai Mario,

Thanks for your fast reply. The medium info in Nero shows me the cd-text read from my Aopen DVD-player (don't know type exactly, but is capable to read cd-text) and from my Plextor Burner (PXW-4012A) as well. Both devices are capable to read cd-text. So, there must be something else that causes the problem. In windows media player however I can't see track information also. It looks like there is a different handling of cd-text in these two programs then there is in Nero and in normal cd-text handling cd-players. Do you know perhaps, is there something specific to a cd with cd-text, so you can recognize it in explorer?

Thanks,
Dirk

Weird thing.
What happens in CATraxx if you use the Plextor to read the CD-Text you created with Nero ? Do you have the same error ?
Remember to change the device setting in CATraxx if you need to test it again...( Tools > Preferences > Multimedia > CD-Rom drive ).

This happens also using the Plextor ?

It would be the very first experience for me ! I never heard about that problem before...

I will be away tomorrow but as I'm back I will investigate further and report as soon as possible.

One more ( last ! ) thing: are you absolutely sure about the Aopen CD-Text support ?
A DJ friend of mine here had to change his dvd player becouse it was not enabled...
I also checked the Aopen Web Site ( http://www.aopen.com/products/oe_default.htm ) to read more information about the players they manufacture but I haven't found any DVD Player files listing information about CD-Text support...
Strange becouse it should be a good advertising point to gain customers...but I could simply have missed it...

Please excuse my poor English and all my questions but I'm really not able to reproduce the problem here...

Thanks in advance & take care !

Might be a driver problem. See this discussion for more information: http://www.fnprg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1004

:D

Thanks Fredrik,

The set of aspi-drivers you referred to in another topic did it. I should have known. This evening I tried to install a cd-player from plextor that reads cd-text but the installation failed because there seemed to be no aspi32 driver installed. I was planning to solve this, but wanted a solution for the cd-text problem first. Never thought that this could solve it.

Also thanks to Mario. It is nice there are people who try to get your problems solved.

Bye,
Dirk

Ciao Dirk,
really glad Fredrik solved your problem !
He's fantastic: always promt and useful...and probably he has a "troubleshooting database" in his amazing head...
Mine is probably empty... :? I knew about the ASPI-Drivers issue and the related links, BUT I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT !!!
Please excuse me !
