Post Cover1 field is gone!

I have no idea how to explain this, basicly because english is not my mother tounge. I'll give it a go and hope that someone will understand me. If not, maybe I can give further details to what I have done.

I made myself a new database and started to edit stuff with the "Form Designer" tool.
I decided to move the filed named "Cover 1" to a place more suitable for me. I also added the "Cover 2" and "Cover 3" field for additional photos.
Somehow, I lost the "Cover 1" field, I do not know where it is in the "Form Designer". I can not find it anywhere in the album editer (I'm sure that's not the name, I hope you get it anyway).
However the picture still shows in the explorer-/album views.

My thought was that I just simply had removed the field in the "Form Designer", but when I try and add it it isn't there. So, I guess I have missplaced it somewhere.

My question is; how do I find this field again? What can I do? I have made alot of changes that I don't want to discard.

I'm grateful for any ideas and answer I can get.
Cheers everyone =)

Hi ingolicious

In FORM DESIGNER
Select INSERT
Select FIELD
Click where you want COVER 1
Select COVER 1 from the INSERT FIELD form
Right Click the COVER field and select PROPERTIES
Make changes as appropriate.

Hope this helps!

Hi Ingolicious

I don't read this problem the same way as Doug.

You said "when I try and add it it isn't there". I assume "there" is the selection list of fields to be added. CATraxx will not permit the same field to be present twice in the same Album Editor Form. CATraxx removes fields from the selection list if they are already in use in the form. This would suggest that the Cover 1 field is actually present on your form somewhere. But where?

It's a big field to lose! :( Unfortunately, I don't know anyway of searching for a field and jumping directly to it. I suspect it must be hidden under another field. This could even be on another tab. To hide a big field like Cover 1, my suspicions would be with other 'big' fields like Notes or Review etc.

First of all save the existing form as a separate file, so you always have this as a base to go back to. Then edit the form and start looking 'under' other fields by moving them to see if anything is hidden underneath. Have a look at the 'properties' of each field before you move it, so you are always able put it back in exactly the same location afterwards.

Have you adjusted the size of the form as well as the contents? Is it possible the Cover 1 field is off the edge of the visible form? Try expanding the size of the form to see if anything appears at the edges.

Finally, there is one other approach I have thought of while typing this. I'm not completely sure about this and I can't test it right now - I'm not at my CATraxx PC. You can test it yourself or wait until I've tried it this evening. If you do try this please make a safe backup of your entire database first. (This is one area where Doug has taught us all thoroughly!)

Go to TOOLS > DATABASE SETUP.
Select the ALBUMS table.
Select the COVER 1 field.
Uncheck the 'Use' box.
Click 'OK' (I think this will remove the field from the Form Designer without deleting the data associated with the field.)
Close the database setup editor if it is not already closed.
Go to TOOLS > DATABASE SETUP.
Select the ALBUMS table.
Select the COVER 1 field.
Check the 'Use' box.
(This should now offer a prompt asking if you want to add the field to the entry form. If you accept it will open the Form Editor and you can add the COVER 1 field wherever you want it on the form.)

Several ideas but I'm not sure which one will work best for you.

Regards

Ken

Or, choose File => Save to File and send the form layout file to support@fnprg.com.

Thank you everyone for your help!
Ken, you got my problem spot on. Unfortunately nothing helped me get my field back, so I'm left with the option to send the form layout to mr Fredrik.

Thanks though!

Well I have to appologize everyone for taking their time. Fredrik helped me out in a way I don't think he expected.

It turned out that I had renamed the field "Cover 1" into "Bild".
I didn't understand that until Fredrik sent me a picture of the menue where you add a certain field. In that picture he had all the fields grouped (there's a little box you have to check).

Once they were grouped, I found the "Cover 1" under the sub-menue "Cover". but renamed as "Bild".

I hope you all understand where I did wrong and why I did wrong. Hopefully this might help another "newbie" in the future

Thanks again for everyones help and fast responses!

Well I don't think I would have diagnosed that problem!
Anyway, good luck now that everything's working again.
