Post Folio Society

I use the wonderful internet download for most of my books, using a cheap scanner from ebay. Also of course manually with scans for covers when the book is old. But does anyone have a method for inputting Folio Society books into BookCAT? They have no ISBN although they have the Society's own ref. no. Many of these books are still being sold but many aren't, so it would be great if there was a database I could use somewhere.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Like any items without an ISBN, you'll have to enter them manually. Not too bad IMO, because the clone function allows you to copy entries, then do whatever editing is required. Or you could search for a similar title with an ISBN, download that & delete the ISBN and put Folio edition in the Edition field and their internal reference somewhere else.

Is there a specific reason they've chosen to not include an ISBN?

I guess that's because the Folio Society does not sell their books through retailers. Hence they have no need for ISBNs. Just an educated guess

If they go to the trouble of arranging for/using their own reference numbers, why not use an ISBN for reference? Probably the problem is that they have to pay to use ISBN's.

Thanks for both your replies. Much as I thought really. Not sure if cloning is an answer, because the FS have all sorts of special features sometimes, like different pictures. And especially the covers/booksleeves, which I will have to photograph really, scanning won't do any justice.

Yes I can take some other info. from elsewhere like a review or summary.

Thanks again.
