 StampCAT - Desktop and Laptp
What is the best way to work with a desktop and a laptop using StampCAT? Is it the backup and restore feature? Or is there a different feature/process/step that need to be used.

Ciao ddavis53 The Help file ( FAQ > Miscellaneous ) reports a suggestion about a question that could work for your issue too:

FAQ: How do I transfer the program to a new computer? I have a registered copy of StampCAT but have just changed my machine. Can I get my StampCAT program and data off my old hard drive onto my new one without too much hassle? This is probably the easiest way: Download the program from http://www.fnprg.com/stampcat/download.htmland install it on your new computer. Note: You cannot just copy the program files to your new computer, you must run setup to make sure all files are installed correctly. Copy the license file (StampCAT.lic) from the old computer to the new (copy it to the folder you installed the program to). Use the backup/restore functions to transfer your database(s). Choose File->Backup Database on your old computer to transfer your database to diskettes, and then File->Restore Backup on your new computer to restore the backup from the diskettes.

This work really fine and I must confess that I also move often my "normal" databases, without backing them up. I use a memory stick and simply copy my databases and move them from a PC to another. Hope this helps & take care

I've done as described for "moving to a new pc" on the laptop. As well as copied the license file over there.
What I've been doing is selecting the "collection database" and then coping it to the laptop. Appears to be working fine, but was just wanting to know the recommended process. I tried the backup, then copy the backup, then restore the backup - that was just to must clicking and selecting - but if that is the surest way - that is the best way.

Well, other than secure it's probably also low time consuming. I assume that when you close the prog and plan to move the database elsewhere you run a backup, so you have simply to bring the backup file and copying it where you need. Anyway, I confirm that I often move my many "normal" databases and 'til now I never had problems. I do it normally because I can run backups in different moments for all my CAT programs and when I move normal databases I don't have to move many folders ( one folder can have ONLY one backup file ) but all single files... Hope this helps ! Ciao.

It is not necessary to use the backup/restore function to move a database to another computer. You can also simply copy the database to the laptop.

That is what I've been doing since writing that note entry. And it works - VERY WELL.

 Desktop/laptop working
Hi,
I know it is a bit late, but I actually keep the database on my memory stick all the time. both my computers read the memory stick as a removable drive, so there is no compatibilty problem here.

 Database
Also be sure you are aware of the ability to link images to a file so that if your database gets to big that you can keep them in a seperate folder so that the backups stay small.
