Fredrik,
I don’t like keeping my own data - for ANY programs installed on my computer - on my C:\ drive. It makes them much more difficult to backup and therefore much easier to lose that data in the case of a system failure. Microsoft makes access to any and all "system folders" difficult for third party programs. Especially since Vista and now in Windows 7. "Increased security" of my data, they claim. Many backup utilities do not (or can not - not sure which) access any directories in the old "Documents and Settings" folders, now usually in the "..\Users\{Username}\ directory, as well as the C:\Windows\ directory.
So I reserve my C:\ drive strictly for the Windows system, at least I stick to that as well as possible. I have two more internal SATA drives: D:\ and E:\, with D:\ used exclusively for all my data files, multimedia, etc., and E:\ is used for backups. (I also have a number of external drives on which I rotate regular backups and drive images, and an Amazon S3 account where I keep a copy of my backups online). This all might seem a bit over cautious, but anyone who has experienced a catastrophic data loss probably understands!
In SoftCAT I changed all file locations that I could find within the Options dialog, closed SoftCAT, moved the SoftCAT folder from the Users directory to my D:\ drive, and restarted SoftCAT. Which promptly told me that I was using a trial version. So I re-entered the license info and of course SoftCAT then recreated the SoftCAT older in the Users directory! Next, it told me that it could not locate the Explorer Templates. I recognized that name as one of the subfolders I had moved. I found where I could change that location under the Tools menu (actually the dialog that said it couldn't find them suggested that location!) and so I changed that location also.
My question is: Are there any other folder path changes I must make within SoftCAT in order to have it aware of all the new folder locations? If so, can you please let me know where?
