Post Classcial?

Hello,

I only check in here once a year or so to ask the same dumb question.

Any possibility to make catraxx a little more friendly for classical music libraries?
OR maybe even coming out with a completely new version?

classicaltraxx?
classicattraxx?
classycattraxx?

Thanks
The Crudge

Post Re: Classcial?

Hi there

How to catalogue classical music is one of these perennial issues that raises its head every so often. There have been various attempts and suggestions by users over the years about how to accommodate the unique challenges it offers but I don't think there is one standardised approach.

There are many threads over the years in this forum and a search for 'classical' will probably reveal a lot of (too many?) references. I've made some customisations to my set-up that allow me to handle classical in a way that suits me, and LesStClair has made extensive mods in this area. Have a look at this thread as a starter example. I'm more than happy to share a small sample database if you send me contact details.

Most contributors to this forum respond best to specific problems. As ever, we're not too good at the "can you make it better?" type of request. If you can imagine it, there's a good chance that someone will come up with a way of achieving it.

Regards

Ken

Hello and thanks for the reply.

Indeed, I have setup my database to make it more classical friendly for my own use. As you point out there
isn't a one size fits all solution. Mine seems to work fairly well but there are still some annoyances. Op and kv
numbers and compilations presented some difficulties which I think I have worked out for the most part.
Most of my customization involved changing field names, grouping definitions and sorting. I don't list all the
tracks in works involving multiple movements either so the track count and times are wrong.
"Allegro con brio"??? Who cares?

I will do as you suggest however and search the classical postings. A sample database would be great if
you can send. I can send one as well in case you're interested. Thanks

Of course replace "at" with @

Post Re: Classcial?

Hi there

Sorry about the delay in sending anything. Major hiccup with my home PC yesterday has had me isolated (I'm posting this at work).
I've got all my data safely backed up on a RAID1 NAS and a USB HDD (see Doug, all this time I have been listening to your advice!) so I shouldn't have any problems there. I just haven't had much time to get things back in a working form yet.
