Post How do you deal with CDs that contain a DVD in the package?

Just wondering...how do you handle CDs that also contain a DVD in the same package? I do not have CATVids - and at the present time, I don't see myself purchasing it. (Just trying to get thru my CDs, LPs & 45s is daunting enough!)

Example: Paul McCartney & Wings Band On The Run - This is the "Special Edition" reissue from 2010 that contains the remastered album on CD 1 ... bonus audio tracks on CD 2 ... and a DVD with video "tracks" as the third disc. (In addition, I bought my copy from Best Buy, and they included another DVD that was pasted to the package.

Would this simply be a 2CD set with a notation in the Notes that there are additional discs containing video content?
Would you create a new "format" for these packages? If so, what did you call it?
Would you manually add an additional disc that lists the contents of the DVD(s)?

I don't have many of these, but I'm curious about how you all catalog them.

Thanks!

I take several approaches depending on what the DVD includes. If the DVD is simply additional music with identifiable tracks (e.g., a DVD version of the CD or a concert), then I enter the DVD as if it was CD #2 (or whatever). I have a format for this that is CD+DVD. I do everything that ordinarily would if the disc were a CD instead of a DVD with the exception of checking for track times. On the other hand, if the DVD is a documentary or music videos or something else that isn't easily broken down into component tracks the way a CD would be, then I just enter the DVD (again with the CD+DVD format) as disc 2 but I don't enter any information about it (other than to indicate that it is a DVD). Not perfect, but it seems to (mostly) work.

Hello dexter, i solved this issue as follows:
I created a new format group ie:other, then i created different formats for it such as:
DVD+CD, DVD+2CD, DVD+3CD, 2DVD+CD, etc, etc for every upcoming strange format i will create it like this and put them under the format group other.
Afterwards these strange box sets are easy to trace if needed through the format grouping filter.
If a disc contains a cd and a dvd with the same concert, i edit the disc media like this: disc 1 CD disc 2 DVD Video
If both disc's are the same you can clone the first disc and edit the media field.
If not i usualy use something like power dvd and fil in the blancs and time i get from power dvd
At last i renamed a couple of custom fields on album and track level to fil some more info for them.
On album level there is video format (pal, ntsc, etc), region (used for dvd), and video type ie: music concert, documentary, video special, etc, etc
On track level there is again video type (some discs have multiple things on them ie clips, concerts, etc)
Also picture type, but this time for widescreen, 16/9, 4/3 , amorphous, etc
And another field sound this one i use for cd as well for dvd here i put in the type of tracks it has ie: dolby 2.0, dolby 5.1 ,dts pcm stereo, etc,etc

If needed i can send you a piece of my database so you know how it looks like
The only things wich are not in catraxx is camera angle, director, and other things specific for film attributes, these are if i have them filled in catvids
Does this answer your question a bit?

Greetings pieter
