Post MP3 extension corrupt following write to tag

Fredrik,

I have added a couple of new albums plus associated MP3 files since upgrading to v9. When playing the MP3s in CATraxx audio player it appeared that some of the attached files could not be found. Upon further investigation I saw that a few of the .mp3 extensions had changed to ".mp3~"

I know that the file extension was correct when they were first attached so the change appears to have happened after I did Audio>Write to Tag.

Only one or two random files per album are affected and removing the trailing "~" character restores the file to full health. This seems to be a bug in the v9 update as it has only happened to MP3 files updated since the switch.

Any thoughts?

CATraxx does not change the file extension, but the tagging library may do it. Is this reproducable?

Only when writing tags to a newly added album.

I tried detaching audio, re-attaching and updating the tags to an existing album and everything was fine (the tags were updated because the time stamp changed) but the file extension was unaffected.

When I added a brand new album (scan folder: add audio files)...after I OK'd the Custom09 pop-up, the MP3s are correctly attached. When I then ran "audio: write to tag" I could see two of the attached files change to ".mp3~" types after the tag update was completed. The changed files, in this instance, were tracks 09 and 11 from a 19 track album.

Don't know if the "custom09" pop-up error is connected in some way?

Are the tags in the ".mp3~" file updated correctly?

No, I can't see how this is connected.

I've been waiting for the problem to reoccur, which it just has.
Anyway, once I removed the spurious "~" it was clear that the MP3 tag had been updated correctly.

Hi Les
I had this issue with V8 for a short time and the problem disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared. However I have no idea what caused it or corrected it. The point being it is not uniquely something that has happened in V9.
Every now and again I come across a file with the spurious "~" and rename as you have done and all is well.

Regards

John

I can't reproduce this here, but try this update: http://www.fnprg.com/tmp/catraxx_update_setup.exe

Sorry, posted reply to wrong problem here (now moved to correct post)! Correct reply follows:

The update seems to have created a different problem. I now get the following message (in the log file): "Frame size differs from actually amount of data written". This time the tags are not updated.
I only get this with a newly added album. Previously added and tagged albums update without a problem.

I'll try adding a couple more new MP3 albums to see if this is reproducible.

Post Re: MP3 extension corrupt following write to tag

Hello Les, Fredrik,
I did not have yet the wrong extension with my mp3 files with V9, but did encounter the same error in the log file les mentioned.
It happened with a number of mp3's wich with the old version V8 already had been written to these files.
I didn't understand the reason for it at all until i noticed with Foobar that the ID3V1 was not updated but ID3V2 was.
What i did next was opening these files in Foobar and delete all tagging.
Used the tag write again from within Catraxx and the error's were gone.
If i remember correctly older versions of Catraxx did write the ID3V1 as well as the ID3V2 tagging.
I do know now that when Catraxx write's his tags to mp3 and there has not been written any data to this file yet it only writes to the ID3V2 tagging, the other is left alone and not written to (ID3V1)
Maybe there lies the problem?

Greetings Pieter
