CATraxx Audio Player is a separate program that will play audio files attached to your CATraxx database. While you can of course play audio files from within CATraxx, the audio player is a great alternative if you simply want to play music and do not need to edit data. This is a much smaller program than CATraxx that loads faster and requires less memory. It will also give better performance if the database is located on a network drive. In addition, you can install the player on a PC where you do not need to use CATraxx to edit data (for example on a media center PC in your living room).
CATraxx Audio Player gives you access to your saved playlists, and you can create new playlists on the fly from the Track Selector window. While most audio players will let you selected tracks to play based on basic tag data only (artist, title, album title, genre, year), CATraxx Audio Player will let you query your CATraxx database on almost any data field (for example songwriter, producer, musician, live recordings, bonus or demo tracks, BPM, label, purchase date, keywords, play count, last play date, or any of the custom fields).
The player has an explorer pane showing information about the track that is currently playing. You can click on hyperlinks (for example the artist name, album title or genre) to open the Explorer window where you can explore the data further (and also select new tracks, or albums, to play). From the explorer pane you can also rate the currently playing track, and edit the lyrics.
And finally, CATraxx Audio Player will accurately update the Last Played and Play Count fields (if you use another player CATraxx will update all tracks when it sends the playlist to the player, not when you actually play the individual tracks).
The CATraxx Audio Player is set up as default audio player when you choose to play audio files from within CATraxx.
