Audio: CATraxx can now read the album art from a file in the folder when adding audio files, and save the album art to a file when updating tags. You set this up in the 'Audio File Options' window. Screenshot.
Audio: Tag: Write: 'Write/Sort by' setting is now also used when writing to Composer and Lyricist tags.
Audio: Tag: Write: Improved error handling.
Audio: Scan Folder: Improved error handling.
Audio: Rescan Folders: You can now select to rescan all albums (as before), or either the marked album or the selected albums.
Audio: Auto-Organize: You can now have multiple setups for various types of albums. Each setup is associated with a filter. All albums matching this filter will use the specified folder and filename setup. Albums that doesn't match any of the filters will use the "General" setup. By default there are three setups: Soundtracks (all soundtracks - the audio files will be saved in a separate folder named !Soundtracks), Compilations (all compilations - the audio files will be saved in a separate folder named !Compilations) and General (the rest of the albums). You can create as many setups as you like, for example one for "Various Artists" albums, one for bootlegs, one for multi-disc albums, etc. Screenshot.
Audio: Auto-Organize: You can choose to include a part of the folder/filename pattern only if a data field actually contains a value (that is, is not empty). To do this, simply enclose the part in curly brackets. For example, the default folder format uses this setup: "\%album_artist_sort%\{[%album.released_year%] }%album_title%\". The release year is enclosed in square brackets, but these are only included if the release year is actually specified (if not, we would have ended up with [] if the Released field was empty).
Audio: Auto-Organize: To limit the number of characters to use, you can now specify the maximum number of characters after the field code, enclosed in parentheses. For example "%album_title(50)%" to only use the first 50 characters of the album title.
Audio: Attach Audio Files: The 'Auto-Organize' window is now automatically opened after the new audio files have been attached. From this window you can automatically organize the newly attached audio files into a folder structure and filename format of your choice.
Audio: Attach Audio Files: This is now faster, and will successfully attach more files to albums (both when attaching files to the database, as well to a single album). In addition, it now better handles albums where you only have some of the songs as audio files.
Audio: Attach Audio Files: Track length is now read from the audio files (if the Length field is empty).
Audio: Detach: You can now detach audio files from either all albums, the marked albums, or the selected albums.
Audio: Playlist: Added a new "random" operator. This will pick a *filter value* at random. There are four new playlists that uses this feature: "Random Artist - All Albums" (will pick one artist and select all albums by this artist in chronological order), "Random Artist - 10 Tracks" (will pick one artist and select 10 tracks by this artist), "Random Genre" (will pick one genre and select 25 tracks in this genre), and "Random Year" (will pick one year and select 25 tracks released this year). Audio: Playlist: Added two new fields: Playing Time and Number of Tracks. These fields are automatically updated.
Audio: Playlist: You can now add "duplicate" tracks to the same playlist.
Audio: Playlist: You can now add tracks without an attached audio file to a playlist (you have to turn this on in the 'Audio Files Options' window).
Audio: Playlist: Opening, and adding tracks to, a manual playlist is now faster.
Audio: Playlist: You can clone a playlist.
Audio: Playlist: Faster to open randomized playlists.
Audio: 'Audio File Options' moved from the Audio menu to the Options menu.
Audio Player: You can now edit data directly from the audio player. From the toolbar you can edit the track currently playing, the album, and the artist(s). In addition, you can edit any record from the Explorer window.
Audio Player: The player now has native support for all file types, except SHN. This means you only need to install a DirectShow codec if you want to play SHN files.
Audio Player: Added some additional layouts for the current playlist (select from the View menu).
Data Entry: Merge Albums: Renamed from "Merge CDs". You can now select multiple albums in the 'Merge Albums' window to merge all albums in one operation. Screenshot.
Data Entry: Album: Scan CD - Read Track Times: If the tracks haven't already been added to the database, CATraxx will now automatically add (empty) tracks before saving the track times.
Data Entry: When editing data in the 'Download from CDDB' window, the status is automatically set to "Manual".
Data Entry: Memo: You can now set up a default font for all memo fields under Tools => Options => Memo. This font is used when adding new records, both during manual entry, and when downloading data, reading audio file tags and importing data.
Grid: Thumbnails quality is now better if the thumbnail is scaled.
Explorer: The Index template now displays the number of linked audio and video files.
Explorer: When playing a song in CATraxx Audio Player there is now a link that will select all your favorite ("5 star") songs by the current artist. Screenshot.
Explorer: When exploring an artist, clicking the "Albums" link will now bring up a page that will list all albums including all tracks. Here you can, for example, easily rate all albums/songs by this artist. Screenshot.
Explorer: Setting the personal rating from the explorer is now faster since the page no longer needs to be regenerated.
Explorer: Added a Ctrl+E shortcut in the Explorer window to edit the current record.
Explorer: Playlist: Added a link to list all playlists from the Index page. In addition, all tracks on the playlist are now displayed in the explorer.
Explorer: Artist/Album list: Now sorted by Title in addition to Released.
Explorer: Added a new "All Roles" link when exploring an artist/person. This brings up a list showing all roles the artist/person is assigned to per album.
Explorer: Split the Year/Format/Label column into 3 columns in album overview list (accessible when exploring an artist).
Images: Default thumbnail size has been increased from 42x42 to 100x100 pixels (new databases only). If you would like to update the thumbnail size in an existing database, change the size from the 'Database Setup' window, then choose Tools => Database Maintenance => Regenerate Thumbnails.
Report: Quality of printed images is now better if the image has been scaled down.
Report: Archive File: Default file extension changed from "rar" to "crar".
Views: Added a Reset button in the 'List Layouts' window. Click this button to delete all existing layouts, and add the default layouts.
Views: Added a Reset button in the 'Sort Orders' window.

Data Server: New method: EditRecord. Call this with the table name and record id to edit the record in the standard data entry window.
Data Server: New method: ActiveRecord. This returns the record id of the active record in the browse list according to the table you specify.

Download from Internet: When an updated dll file is available the file is now automatically downloaded and installed. You no longer have to download the setup file, close CATraxx, install the updated dll and finally restart CATraxx to continue downloading data.
Internet.dll version number now displayed in the About window.
"Vinyl Query" renamed to "Manual Query".
Manual Query: Discogs: Improved search result.
Audio: Scan Folder: Track order now set based on filenames if track index is not set in the audio file tag.
Database Maintenance: Replace Memo Font: In addition to the font name, you can also update the font size.
You can now right-click the browse list and choose "Clear Filter" to deactivate the current filter (or simply press Shift+Ctrl+C).
Explorer: If a memo field contains formatted text, the correct font as specified in the edit window is now always used. Previously the default explorer font was sometimes used (no longer necessary to set the .memofieldfont style in Style.css).

Images: For images stored externally, you can now right-click the image field and choose Goto Folder to go to the folder the image file is located.

HTML Export: The HTML Export module has been completely rewritten. Instead of having to manually edit xsl templates, you can now easily set up everything from within the program without having to even look at the xsl templates! Screenshot.
Audio Player: Added an album carousel window allowing you to view your
collection as album covers in a manner similar to iTunes coverflow. You can
bring up this window by either clicking the artist name, release year, label
or genre in the explorer pane. Screenshot.
NOTE: If you upgrade from an older version you need to update the AudioPlayer.xsl template. For more information, see the FAQ.
Audio Player: Added Back and Forward buttons allowing you to navigate in the playlist history.
Audio Player: You can now resize the left section (with the info panel, playback control buttons and explorer pane).
Audio Player: You can now hide the info panel (the panel with the scrolling text above the playback control buttons). Simply uncheck Info Panel on the View menu.
Audio Player: The Explorer window opens faster when you reopen it.
Audio: Tag: Write: Added a new "Add additional artists to Title" option. Check
this box to write any additional artists (that is, all artists except the first one) to the Title tag (after the title) instead of the Artist tag. You can select whether you want to enclose the artists with square brackets, curly brackets or parentheses.
Audio: Tag: Write: Added a new "Write/Full Title" option. Uncheck this box if
you do not want to write the Full Title field to the tag (Full Title includes Title, Version, Live, Demo, Instrumental, Bonus, and Hidden).
Audio: Tag: Write: Added a new "Modify file date when updating tag" setting. If this is not checked, the file date is not modified when the audio tag is updated.
Audio: Tag: Read: Composer is now read from MP4 tags.
Auto-Organize: For artist fields containing multiple artists, you can now use
the first artist only by adding "_f" after the field code (for example "%album_artist_f%" or "%album_artist_sort_f%").
Data Entry: Split Lookup: Improved handling of artist roles.
Data Entry: When entering data in date fields, you can now press "Y" to
automatically select the year part of the field, "M" to select the month part
and "D" to select the day part. This will speed up the data entry process.
Data Entry: The memo fields are now available in the Track Template window.
Data Entry: Redesigned the Edit Lineup window.
Data Entry: You can reset the form layout from the data entry window without
having to open the Form Designer (File->Use Default Layout).
Explorer: Added shortcuts to close/open the preview pane: Alt+Up and Alt+Down (also available on the View menu).
Explorer: Changed the Back/Forward shortcuts to Alt+Left/Right.
Explorer: When using the SUM function to sum time fields (for example
Playing Time), the selected time format is now automatically used.
The main artist genre is now available for albums and tracks (you can
for example group and filter on this field in the Album and Track View).
You can also access this field when using the auto-organize function
("%artist genre main%").
Search: Added the Keywords field to the special searches.
Quick Locate: Works faster when typing directly into the browse list.
Added a shortcut to clear the current quick search (Ctrl+Shift+F12).
Added a shortcut to open the 'Search and Replace' window: Ctrl+L.
Report: You can now add a "%filter%" code to text labels in order to print the current filter (will include both field, operator and value).
Export: Text: All album fields under "Track Info" are now available.
Redesigned the Page Setup, Print Report and Edit Sort Order windows.
As long as you don't edit the Sites menu, the entries on the Sites menu will
now always default to the standard sites (previously added to the menu the
first time you ran CATraxx). In the 'Edit Sites Menu' you can now click the
Reset button to reset the menu to show the default sites.
As long as you don't manually edit the Report menu, the program will now
automatically scan the Reports folder and dynamically add all reports to
the menu. This means that you don't have to manually add the report to
the menu when you create a new report (just make sure you save it in the
appropriate folder in the Reports folder). In the 'Edit Report Menu' you can
now click the Reset button to reset the menu (rescan the Reports folder).
As long as you don't manually edit the Search menu, the program will now
automatically scan the Search folder and dynamically add all saved searches
to the menu. This means that you don't have to manually add the search to
the menu (just make sure you save it in the Search folder). In the
'Edit Search Menu' you can now click the Reset button to reset the menu
(rescan the Search folder).
Data Server: Added a GotoRecord method. Call this method to select a
record in the browse list. The correct view is automatically activated.

8.15 - December 4, 2008

You can now set the album, track and playlist genre to the same as the artist genre from the Artist/Person view. You can process all artists, or just a selection, and you can choose whether the existing genre should be overwritten or not. For more info, see http://www.fnprg.com/catraxx/helpfile/to_update_genres.htm.
The program will now automatically set the genre to the artist genre (if this has been specified) when adding a new album, track or playlist. If you want to disable this, choose Tools/Options/Data Entry and uncheck 'Automatically set genre to artist genre'. When downloading data from the Internet, or reading data from audio file tags, the genre is most likely already filled in. To overwrite this genre with the artist genre, choose Tools/Options/Data Entry and check 'Overwrite existing genre'.
Default values: You can now set up default values also for fields in lookup tables (for example Artist.Type).
Audio: Auto Organize: If track count > 99, the Index field will now use 3 digits.
Audio: Auto Organize: You can now use the Position field ("%position%") in the filename format. The track position combines Item, Side and Index. For example: "4" (track #4), "B2" (track 2 on side B), "2-1" (track #1 on item #2) or "2-B1" (track #1 on side B on item #2). Item and Side are not included if the album has only one item or one side.
Audio: Tag: Write: Added a new option that will combine composers and lyricists, and write all data to the composer tag.
You can search and group on the artist genre field from the Album and Track View.
Grid: You can now globally disable alternate row coloring (Tools->Options->Miscellaneous->'Disable alternate row coloring').
Capitalization: Various enchancements.

Explorer: The home page now shows the "pick of the day" (a new album is selected each day).
Explorer: Audio: The home page now shows number of plays grouped by artist, track and album - both for the last 30 days and all time. NOTE: If you upgrade from an older version you need to update your Index.xsl template. For more information, see the FAQ.
Explorer: The play history list is now sorted in descending order (newest date first).
Audio Player: You can now select your favorite playlists directly from the toolbar.
Audio: Scan Folder: Improved error handling when adding scanned files.
Audio: The Last Modified field is now updated when attaching/detaching audio files.
Capitalization: The program will now take the words in the "exceptions" list ("a", "it", "the", etc.) into account when it capitalizes text as you type.
Capitalization: New setting: "Only capitalize words in lower case". When this is selected, words containing at least one letter in upper case are not capitalized.
Data Entry: Image: When removing a link to an external image file you now have the option to also delete the image file.
Data Entry: 'Set Track Index' window: Added a button to automatically number the tracks from 1 to [total number of tracks].
Data Entry: 'Assign Template' window: Added buttons to check/uncheck all titles.
You can now edit the default text ("Yes" and "No") for check box fields displayed in the explorer, reports, grouping list, etc: Tools->Options->Miscellaneous->Text checkbox fields.
Added a button to clear the selected field in the grouping, filter and search windows, and to clear the active grouping definition and active filter in the main window.

Audio: Attach: In the 'Attach Audio Files' window you can now specify whether the program should attach audio files to all albums, marked albums (the subset), or the selected albums in the Album View. This is useful, for example, if you have an album on both CD and LP, but only want to attach the audio files to the CD.
Audio: Attach: There is a new 'Exclude folders already in database' option. When this is checked, the program will simply skip all folders that contain audio files already linked to the database. This can greatly speed up the scan process.
Audio: Auto-Organize: Instead of selecting whether to process all albums/tracks, the subset, or the selection directly from the menu, you now select this in the 'Audio-Organize Audio Files' window.
Audio: Auto-Organize: You can now use only the year part of a date field by adding "_year" after the field name. For example "%album.released_year%".
Audio: Auto-Organize: If the album contains more than 9 discs, two digits are now automatically used for the %disc#% field.
Audio: Auto-Organize: The file date is no longer modified by default. If you still want the program to set the file date when renaming files, open the 'Audio File Options' window, click the Misc tab and check the 'Modify file date when renaming file' box.
Audio: Read from Tag: There is a new 'Compare dates' setting in the (new) 'Read from Tag' window that will instruct the program to compare the file date against the Tag Read field, and only read data from the tag if the audio file has been modified since you last read the tag. In addition, you now specify whether to update all, marked, or selected albums/tracks in this window instead of from the menu.
Audio: Write to Tag: There is a new 'Compare dates' setting in the (new) 'Write to tag' window that will instruct the program to compare the Last Modified field against the Tag Write field, and only write data to the tag if you have edited the album/track since you last updated the tag. Database: Added two new fields to the Play History table: User and Computer. When the play history is updated, the Windows user name and the name of the computer the track is played from are now stored in the Play History table.
Database: You can now search, filter and group on the Play History (play date), Play History - User and Play History - Computer fields.
Data Entry: Set Field Value: You can now specify whether to process all, marked or selected records from the 'Set Field Value' window.
Data Entry: Set Track Index window: Increased the width of the Index column.
Images: You can now tell the program to use the artist sort name when generating image filenames (for example "Cure, The" instead of "The Cure"). In the 'Options' window, open the Multimedia group, then check the 'Images/Filename - artist sort name' box.
Explorer: Set personal rating/genre: The currently 'active' rating/genre is now highlighted on the popup menu.
Explorer: Audio Player: Some minor modifications: The songwriter roles are displayed and all names are shown in bold text.
Explorer: Original by field is now displayed in the preview pane.
Browse list: For date fields that also include the time (Last Modified, Last Played, etc.) you can uncheck the 'Include time' column property if you do not want to show the time (only the actual date).
Report: Added a new album overview report sorted by release year.
