BookCAT allows you to download information like book title, author, publisher, publish year, keywords, etc. from the Internet.
| 1. | Make sure the Book View is active, then choose Add - Download from Internet You see the 'Download from Internet (Add New)' window. ![]() |
| 2. | Type the ISBN/LCCN number into the ISBN/LCCN text box, then click the Add button (or simply press Enter). If you have a barcode scanner, you can scan the barcode on the book cover into this field. BookCAT will automatically convert the barcode to an ISBN number. Note: Most barcode scanners will automatically add a Carriage Return after the barcode number when you scan the barcode. If your scanner does not do this you will have to press Enter after you have scanned the barcode. Note: To load a file of ISBNs or bar codes directly into the list, choose Import from the File menu, then select the file. |
| 3. | Repeat step 2 for all books you want to retrieve from the Internet. |
| 4. | Make sure you are connected to the Internet, then choose Download from the File menu. Note: Choose Options from the File menu to select the sites you want to query. BookCAT will query all selected sites and merge the downloaded information. |
| 5. | Before you transfer the downloaded book data to the database, we recommend that you go through the downloaded information, and check that it is correct. You can edit the downloaded information by choosing Edit from the Book menu (or simply double-click the book you want to edit).![]() Note: If the book was not found and you want to manually fill in the book data in this window, choose Status = "Manual Entry" from the Book menu. Note: To delete all records with a status of 'Not Found', choose Delete "Not Found" from the Book menu. To delete all records with a status of "Error", choose Delete "Error". To delete all records with a status of "Ready", choose Delete "Ready". |
| 6. | Open the File menu and choose Transfer to transfer the downloaded book data to the database. BookCAT will transfer all books with a status of either "Found" or "Manual Entry". By default, BookCAT will show only the newley transferred books in the Book View (when you choose Transfer, the program will first unmark all existing books, then mark the newly transferred books and only show these books). To show all books again, deactivate the subset by choosing Subset from the List menu (or simply press F9). |
